Also, several local area networks linked to wide area networks using IBM PC compatibles were set up in the branch offices and at the back office in Chennai.

Several software packages were purchased from North American vendors for acceleration of customization and implementation of major systems, which support the retail products. A large number of interfaces between these major and several other smaller systems were identified to provide total integration of all systems.

The analysis and design of all major interfaces to and from Customer Information Systems, Loans, Deposits, General Ledger, Bank Card System and the Collection Systems were completed by VAST. Following this, VAST also assisted in the development of an enhancement to the Deposit System to calculate penalty amounts on premature withdrawal of time deposits based on the guidelines of the Reserve Bank of India. In addition, VAST also led the design and development effort for a complete MIS for the client, which would integrate and consolidate necessary data for them, on the IBM mainframe. Besides these development efforts, VAST’s team also assisted in Quality Assurance testing of PC packages developed by other vendors.
