An established US based software products firm specialising
in infrastructure project management products.
The client is a premiere information, training and project
management source for the infrastructure industry. Since 1989,
the Company has been involved in some of the largest engineering
projects in the USA. It is a world leader in the infrastructure
construction industry, providing software solutions and information
services for bidding and building.
This project involved development of an internet based B2B
solution for Estimating & Monitoring projects related
to the infrastructure construction industry. VAST personnel
were involved in analysing and finalising the system architecture
and design in conjunction with other consulting firms on-site.
The application was developed on Java (Servlets & JSP)
with Oracle 8i as the backend database, EJB ’s on Weblogic
server for hosting the application and JBuilder as the desktop
development environment. The entire product was built using
Object Oriented technologies and layered architecture such
as User Interface Framework, Data Access Framework and Business
Services Framework.
The VAST ’s offshore development centre at Bangalore,
India was linked to the client’s computing infrastructure
using a Virtual Private Network over internet and used StarTeam
as the central repository. The business specifications and
the application architecture documents were prepared using
Rational Rose Visual Modeller to depict the use cases.
The offshore team of VAST developed various modules for the
web enabled application, including important services for
Bid Item Import, File Management, Units of Measure Conversion,
and Currency Conversion.
