Stores Procurement Management System

Client: A Big-4 global Management consulting and audit firm

The end client is the monopoly Telco in the Caribbean island where it is located, and is part owned by Cable and Wireless, UK(CNW). The Telco decided to implement a sophisticated on-line Stores and Procurement Information System for the inventory management of telecommunication equipment. CNW planned to use the system as a standard product for similar implementations at other Carib-bean Telcos as well as other countries where it has similar operations.

The system is based on the DEC VAX ACMS platform and employs DECFORMS for screen management, DEC Rdb for database management and COBOL for task to database interface in the form of servers. It also extensively uses the code management system (VAX CMS) for maintaining various versions and releases of the software and module management system (VAX MMS) for taking care of concurrency of parts of software developed, during any change / maintenance.

VAST consultants were associated with this assignment, in a joint effort with the primary contractor, a global Big-4 Management consulting firm, as senior analysts, de-signers and module leaders, responsible for managing components of the develop-ment effort for the system. VAST also has a key role in the project as Quality Assurance consult-ants for the software development effort.
