Client : Major Indian Software
Company on behalf of a European leasing firm
A leading leasing firm in western Europe Germany which is
part of one of the largest financial institutions in that
region decided to migrate their legacy mainframe based applications
built over the last 30+ years to a web-based solution.
The
first phase of this assignment involved analyzing mainframe
COBOL and MANTIS code of the legacy applications, drawing
up program specifications and extracting the business logic
of the programs. The objective of this reverse engineering
exercise was to arrive at the Customer Requirement Specifications
(CRS) for the existing leasing products of the firm. The CRS
served as the basic input for the redesign and development
of an enhanced web based leasing solution.
Following
the reverse engineering and development of the CRS, a forward
engineering exercise was undertaken to rebuild the entire
leasing application to operate in a web-server RDBMS GUI environment.
VAST
was associated with this assignment as a sub-contractor to
the primary vendor for the assignment. VAST’s consultants
were involved in reverse engineering both in leadership and
detail level roles, forward engineering analysis, design,
construction. Besides these, VAST provided leadership support
to the client in managing an independent testing team for
testing the newly built solutions prior to release to the
internal integration testing team. In addition, teams of VAST’s
senior consultants were involved in various phases of onsite
analysis or delivery to the client.
